January, 2004
Hello Everyone,
I hope you
all had an awesome Christmas and New Year. The year 2004 is looking
very promising, with many plans, and lots of news.
WHQ News:
First off, it is with great happiness, honor and pride that we announce
the promotion of Mr. Greg Walker to the position of: Special Military
Tactics Instructor - Modern Farang Mu Sul® - STK Program, to
4th Dan, Kwan Jang Nim and appointment as the 1st Sulsa in Modern
Farang Mu Sul®. This event took place the 29th of December 2003,
here at Modern Farang Mu Sul® World Headquarters in San Francisco.
For those that are unfamiliar
with Greg Walker, he is a very renown writer (Editor of Fighting
Knives and Full Contact Magazines, Author of "Battle Blades",
"The Training of a Knife Fighter" as well as dozens of
other books and countless articles for SOF, Blade, etc.). Not to
mention a highly skilled and dedicated martial artist. He has extensive
background in Martial Arts related to military needs, as well as
all aspects of knife work (Knife Fighting, Knife Making, etc), Law
Enforcement, Military Spec Ops, and Private Security among other
things. He has been a long time student of ours with a positive
and wonderful association with our group, both in terms of training
and special advising for many years.
The STK Program of Modern
Farang Mu Sul® is a very rarely seen program, specifically designed
only for Special Military personnel, Law Enforcement, and Private
Security. We have been developing this program since 1978 when I
first began teaching military personnel. It has evolved since then
and will continue to be fine tuned. Mr. Walker recently returned
from his second tour in Iraq. He is currently teaching various units
in Oregon / Washington State. It is with great excitement that Greg
Walker has accepted this position, (no one else is more deserving
than him) and we will be working very closely this year 2004 to
expose and provide the critical skills involved to those groups
that need it. To see more pictures click here.
News
from Poland: Inst. Kaska Furdyna and Asst. Inst.Andrzej Klepczyk
recently celebrated their birthdays (with separate parties). From
all of us, we say:
Szczesliwy
Dzien urodzenia !!! ( I sure hope I spelled that right
)
They have
resumed regular training in December and as always there are some
new faces as well as familiar ones in class. Keep up the good work.
We were also told that some time in late March or in April, Inst.
Mirek Guszczynski and his lovely wife Monika will become proud parents.
Wow, this is really awesome news. The timing should be perfect so
I will get a chance to meet the cute rascal this spring during our
Europe trip. I can't wait.
News
from Michigan: Inst. Robert Hudson informed me that he is developing
more and more new FMS clubs. They are even going to begin a program
at Dan Severn's academy. That is just fantastic. Good work Sir.
We are behind you 100%. I can't wait to see you later this year
on the East Coast trip.
News
from Portugal: Once again, the irrepressible, Inst. Nelson Pinto
has been running a very tight and busy ship. The Portuguese FMS
group are developing a very good reputation as not only nice people
(and they are) but also as serious martial artist, that can fight.
Words that sing to my heart.
They recently
had their Cristhmas Dinner, where the Portuguese Vale Tudo fighter:
Hugo Matos was a special guest. He recently returned from competing
in the Vale Tudo event known as the Abu Dabi where he did very well.
Inst. Pinto
was invited to teach at the next upcoming Vale Tudo Seminar with
Hugo Matos and various other Masters.
The Portugese FMS students
are preparing to compete in the upcoming National Vale Tudo Tournament
in Lisbon. That should be great. Sensei Mónica Couto and
Sensei Luís Moreira have been partaking in some cross training
with the Portuguese FMS Headquarters in Vilar. (I can hear the Ki
Hap's all the way over here). Way to go! Keep working hard.
They have also been
keeping very busy with demos and seminars, and have a couple of
articles written about them as well. Good form!
News
from Chicago: Inst. Jeremy Talbott and his sons have been quite
active in the tournament circuit lately. At the latest one, his
oldest son Sebby Talbott and his youngest son Eli Talbott took honors
in fighting and forms, and Inst. Talbott in weapons and forms. I
hear the completion was strong, and they had a great time. Their
next tournament will be in February, GOOD LUCK SIR! We are with
you!
News
from Germany: Now that everyone is back from winter vacation:
Asst. Inst. Klockner was in the south of France, and Asst. Inst.
Höhne was on an island in the Baltic Sea...(must be nice),
but seriously, I'm very happy to hear that they too have been very
busy with training, demos and competitions. Good work. I know there
are many plans in development for this years' Europe trip. We have
much to do, so let's keep on, keeping on.
That's all
for now, With brotherhood,
Kuk Sa De Alba
