February, 2003
Hello everyone,
Well, so
much for taking it easy in the month of January. After such a hectic
close to last year, we had planned on taking it slow in January,
but, I guess that there is no rest for the weary.
As it turns out, we managed
to do a great women's' self defense seminar in Aptos, CA. The ladies
gave it their all, and had the right attitude. Then on the ensuing
week end, we went for a great training trip up Mt. Tamalpais. The
hike over to the ocean was incredible, with breathtaking views all
around. Once we found our chosen peak, we began an intense training
session, which included reviewing all color belt short and long
forms, techniques as well as long staff and sword training. What
an awesome time. I can't wait to do it again. Finally, we squeezed
a very nice demo in the presence of some 20 highly respected masters
and grand masters, during the occasion of the grand opening of Kaiso
Dave Bendigkeit's new school in Pacifica, CA. What an honor and
it is always a pleasure to spend time at the Shintaikido school
with Kaiso Bendigkeit and company.

Other news, Inst. Foik
from Warsaw, Poland sent me a copy of the latest issue of "Komandos".
This is a military styled magazine, in which they did a very nice
article with me using the interview that I did last year while visiting
Poland.
Speaking of Inst. Foik,
they are working very hard on building their new school in Warsaw.
They will be offering classes in Modern Farang Mu Sul®, Submission
Grappling, Shin Kum Do, Kalaki FMA as well as a street oriented
program called "QRS" - Quick Reaction System. This should
be awesome. I can't wait to visit the new school. We are all behind
you 100% sir!
Since we're on the subject
of Poland, CONGRATULATIONS!!! to Inst. Guszczynski from Wroclaw
on his recent wedding. We wish him all the best, and can't wait
to see pictures.
Also, Inst. Dorobek and
student won awards in a recent demo and semi-contact competition.
Great job! Their new club is in Namyslow, which is not too far from
Wroclaw.
Inst. Pinto from Portugal
has been keeping very busy. He has taken part in several seminars,
and demos.
He also recently appeared
in a Portuguese Newspaper. He
and students are working very hard to establish themselves and represent
Modern Farang Mu Sul® in the best way possible. Great job!
Keep up the good work
everyone, and I can't wait to see you all in Europe this Spring.
On the East Coast, Insts.
Anthony and Joey Spataro, as well as Inst. Hudson held color belt
testing and did a women's self defense seminar as well. This is
just fantastic. Congratulations to all of the new color belts! Keep
working hard, because I'm going to be checking you all out in NY
this summer!
I was recently informed
by Inst. Medina from Puerto Rico that his school is back in full
swing after negotiating use of the same location that they have
been using in the past. They also recently competed in a very large
tournament in PR. His loyal student Jose Gonzales took first place
in creative forms. Great job!
Well, that's all for
now. With brotherhood,
Kuk Sa De Alba
