February, 2008
Welcome to our February
Modern Farang Mu Sul® newspage. We are kicking off the new year
with a bang. We have so many FMS activities planned for the year,
we can hardly contain ourselves. Alright, we have lots of Modern
Farang Mu Sul® news from all around the globe, let's get to
it. Here are some updates:
FMS - WHQ:
Over here at WHQ, we are working hard in helping coordinate and
organizing all FMS activities for this year. We want to make sure
everyone gets the needed information for all events with as much
time as possible. This will help not only coordinating each even,
but also allows the FMS family to work together, to share and support
each others special events. That's what it's all about. Keeping
those lines of communication open, and working with one another
to help each other succeed, and just enjoy each opportunity to bond
and have some fun. That is the Modern Farang Mu Sul® way!
Top on the list for WHQ
is planning Kuk Sa Nim's schedule for the year, and one of the first
stops includes a pair of open seminars in Hollister. It has been
awhile since Kuk Sa Nim has done an open seminar there. The visits
from the last couple of years have focused on special FMS black
belt workshops. This has been very successful, but it was time to
open it up to everyone.
So, Master Schleeter
planned two special workshops. The first one was dedicated to the
Little Dragons Class. Many of these students have never had the
chance to actually train with Kuk Sa Nim, so it was a real treat.
Although, some were hesitant to join at first, needless to say,
they all did it. And boy was it fun.
Most everyone knows how
great Kuk Sa Nim's classes are for the adults. They tend to be a
whirlwind of information, with advanced concepts made simple and
simple concepts evolved into really advanced training. It's amazing
to watch, but not that many know just how good he is with kids.
Being a parent of three himself, and teaching little ones for over
40 years, once could say he has the knack of reaching those young
minds and bodies, and helping them to do things they never thought
possible. This seminar was no exception. Starting with re-enforcing
the basics, he covered lots of drills, punching and kicking combos,
and a totally fun martial arts obstacle course at the end. It was
a total blast. We've GOT to do more of these. Farang!
FMS
Germany : We got some fantastic news from Germany. It turns
out that Asst. Inst. Markus Höhne is a new uncle. His younger
sister Ramona is the proud mom to her little new son, Noah. Wow,
that is awesome! Congratulations!
Also, it looks like the
Höhne family is in for some changes. Specifically, a change
of scenery. His wife Birgit was offered a great job at the resort
"Legoland" which is in upper Bavaria. They will be relocating
to the beautiful city called Günzburg, which is near Munich.
Well, as sad as I'm sure it is to leave Winterberg, they are very
happy and embracing these new opportunities. So, it looks like Bavaria
will be getting a new FMS dojang sometime soon. Congratulations
again Sir. Farang!

FMS - Hollister
: As we mentioned earlier, Master Schleeter planned two
seminars with Kuk Sa Nim in Hollister this month. The first was
focused solely on the little dragons. This was a huge success. We're
not sure who enjoyed the seminar more, the kids or their parents.
The second seminar was
an open adult workshop. This was a long overdue session. Kuk Sa
Nim started by reviewing several short forms, which he then dissected
into techniques, and worked them into drills. He did the same thing
with a couple of the long forms as well. It is so cool to see so
many hidden techniques in these forms, that are so powerful and
effective. Afterwards, he covered some of his favorite fighting
techniques and combinations, as well as the strategy on how they
are best applied. Real nuggets of gold here. Inst. Mark Shekoyan
was fun to watch as he blasted the bags with his high flying kicks!
Lastly, he covered some
FMS weapons such as middle stick, double middle stick, sword, rope
and dan bong. Good stuff here gang. Kuk Sa Nim was on such a roll,
we just kept training and training, and everyone totally lost track
of time. Master Schleeter had to remind him to stop sometime soon
so we could make our dinner reservations. Oh well, like they say,
time flies when you're having fun. And this was too much fun. Plans
are underway for more training later this year. Farang!!!

FMS Puerto Rico
: Master Dennis Vega and the FMS Puerto Rico family are
working hard on lots of activities planed for 2008. They have several
events in line, including color belt tests, seminars, demos and
the 1st FMS Puerto Rico Warrior Quest Martial Arts Championship,
and more.
So far, they have color
belt testing set for March 29th, June 28th, September 27th and December
20th. They have three main seminars on the books. They are: April
26, 2008 a special State Police Seminar, May 25,2008 Special Open
Seminar with Throwing Techniques for Street Fighting, as well as
on August 24, 2008 they will be doing a Farang Mu Sul Techniques
for Women's Self Defense.
And as we mentioned,
also in the works is the FIRST Annual Puerto Rico Warrior Quest
Martial Arts Championships, which is slated for September 7, 2008
in lovely Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
All of this on top of
black belt testing and seminars and special training with Kuk Sa
Nim in December. Wow, sounds like an action packed year. No wonder
FMS is just booming in Puerto Rico. Good job everyone. FARANG!!!
FMS
- Huntington Beach : Inst. Nicole Miller reports that her
new adult class has been training overtime for first their color
belt test. They have not only been working extra hard in regular
class, but have also made the extra effort to hook up outside of
normal class for more training. Inst. Dylan Hamilton has been extremely
helpful to all, as well as Asst. Inst. Mariah Witt and Asst. Inst.
Nic Nelson. Wow, what a great pool of resources these students have.
You can't go wrong here. You've got all the tools and assistance,
so now it's a matter of going for it! As we speak, the new yellow
belt candidates are: Dayna Hinsley, Scott Miller, Stacey Witt, John
Hamilton, Olin Scott, Mary Botkin, Nancy Gebe and Mallory Hytrek.
Well, the group is looking
real good. Their confidence is high, but that still doesn't make
the nerves go away. There are few events that compare to one's first
color belt test after white belt. This is such a great unknown,
and no amount of words of encouragement can make those fears, doubts
and jitters go away completely. The only solution is lots and lots
of hardcore training. That's it, no big secret. We are confident
that they are right on target. Keep training hard, and good luck
everyone.
FMS
Portugal: Inst. Nelson Pinto reports that the new classes
in Caldas da Reinha are a big hit. He has many new members signing
up. That sounds great. He is offering several options for classes,
and that seems to be working well.
He has both
adult and children classes, where they learn the fundamentals of
stand up (boxing, kickboxing, trapping, joint locks and more), as
well as ground fighting and a variety of traditional and modern
weapons. The main focus is practical and effective self defense.
Make no bones about it, he gives them some hardcore training and
they work hard at it.
That is
so awesome. That certainly sounds like Modern Farang Mu Sul®.
It's no wonder that FMS is spreading like wildfire in Portugal.
Keep it up Sir!
On
top of he normal classes, he is constantly offering special training
for the Law Enforcement and Military sections in Portugal. Yet again,
he is having lots of success with these special courses.
As you may know, this
is a specialized are of training that is in sore need in today's
ever increasingly unpredictable world. He and his group of dedicated
students are rising to the challenge, and leading by example.
That is
so amazing. Keep up the good work Sir. We are very proud of the
hard work you and all the FMS Portugal are doing. Farang!!!
Other
News: We got word from Asst. Inst. Jeff Winters, that the
winter has definitely settled in on his home in Mt. Shasta. Jeff
is a transplanted New Yorker, via San Francisco, now in gorgeous
Mt. Shasta. He as been learning on how to adapt to this more rural
(and quite majestic) area of California.
He says
he's loving it, but with all of this new snow constantly falling
on his property, he has had to break down and get some mechanical
help, in the form of a snow blower. Gotta keep that driveway clear.
Wow, so much for "Sunny California". Hang in there Sir,
spring is just around the corner!
