Well, is it me or is
time just flying? This year is just whizzing by with so much activity!
Here is some of the latest news:
Over here at WHQ, we
just had a splendid time training and enjoying the beauty that is
Mt. Shasta. As you may remember, Asst. Inst. Jeff Winters and his
lovely wife Daniele recently moved up to Mt. Shasta. He has been
working away on their new home, as well as trying to establish various
FMS programs in the area. Jeff has also been very fortunate to find
and awesome instructor who is just like one of our own. He is Inst.
Cliff Blakely, and he is not only a very talented martial artist,
but also an amazing person too. Well, they decided to coordinate
a seminar up there, and it turned out fantastic! Inst. King and
Inst. Stenson joined me on the trek up to beautiful northern California.
We really weren't sure who was going to show up, but to all of our
pleasant surprise, a good 14-16 people made it, ready to work. They
came from anywhere as far as from Redding, CA, and Medford, Or.(approx
1hr away) and even as far as 100 miles away. We got right to work
and did a great morning session that focused on empty hand combatives,
and in the afternoon, it was all about weapons. As it turned out,
there just wasn't enough time to cover all that we wanted. But we
sure had fun trying. Boxing, Kicking, Trapping, Joint locks, Sensitivity
drills, Choking, Takedowns, Stick fighting and Knife fighting were
on the menu, as we all went back for "seconds". Too much
fun. Thank you once again Jeff and Cliff for doing the hard work
of getting the word out about the seminar. It really paid off, and
I'm sure that the next one we do will be twice as big.
As some
of you may know, Jeff is also a great writer, and has a couple of
books out. While he lived in San Francisco, he was a movie review
critic. Well he hasn't lost all his habits since moving to Mt. Shasta.
He has picked up where he left off there as the local movie critic.
Along those lines, Jeff has also been very busy developing a film
festival. This will be the first of it's kind up there. Check out
his website: HERE
It also
seems like there are two themes running around here lately. They
are Black Belt training / Preparation for Testing and Tournament
competition. The East Coast crew have been teaming up for some great
training sessions. They recently visited Inst. Nickels in Hershey,
PA. Good job men. Keep up the good work.
Speaking
of Black Belt workouts, we have had several great sessions down
in Hollister with Inst. Schleeter as well as right here at WHQ and
my house. We have been working on TONS of Black Belt requirements
as well as filming tons of Black Belt requirements for the upcoming
Black Belt tapes that we are making. We have completed 1st Dan Vols
1-3, and 2nd Dan Vols 1-3. (Boy, I wish I had training videos when
I was coming up.....)
As I mentioned,
there has been a lot of training and competition. I was informed
by Inst. Talbott from Chicago that he and his sons have been ripping
up the tournament circuit. Also, Master Vega and the FMS group from
beautiful Puerto Rico recently took high honors at the Mercer Internationals
in New Jersey. They took several first places and even Grand Champion
in forms, fighting and self defense. Great job everyone, and way
to represent!
And last,
but surely not least, we have modified our annual trip to Europe
this year. We moved the dates to June 14th - 28th. We will be stopping
in Portugal for a seminar and Black Belt training, then on to Poland
for Black Belt Testing and more seminars and finally to Germany
for yet more training and seminars. For more information on the
planned activities contact:

This is
going to be FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
That's all
for now, With brotherhood,
