July, 2003
Hello Everyone,
What a fantastic
month July turned out to be. This was quite an event filled month,
and August seems to be just as busy.
Let's start
with news from Portugal. Inst. Pinto and the Modern Farang Mu Sul®
group have been very active and productive.
They
recently had promotional exams, demos (lots of demos), and seminars.
Inst. Pinto also did another radio interview, as well as some very
nice newspaper reviews. Talk about keeping busy! And as if that
wern't enough, a couple of Inst. Pinto's students Filipe Santos
(aka: Tyson) and Tiago Silva, recently took honors in a "Full
Contact" (Kick Boxing Style), and "Ultimate Contact"
(UFC/Vale Tudo Style) competition. GREAT JOB everyone! Way to represent!!
Keep up the good work. We are very proud of all the hard work you
guys in Portugal are doing. Just remember that we will reap the
benefits tomorrow of all the hard work we do today.
On this
side of the pond, we were honored to take part in Kaiso Dave Bendigkeit's
Black Belt testing. Inst. John Stenson and myself presented a demo
as well. I had the honor and opportunity to spend some quality time
discussing, technique, philosophy, and "war stories" with
Grand Master Maschmier, Prof. Ming Lum, Prof. James Muro, Master
Rubi Navarro, Grand Master Al Novak, Grand Master Clarence Lee,
and several other great masters. What an awesome time! Thank you
so much Kaiso Bendigkeit for being such a true brother and noble
warrior.
Asst.
Inst. Jeff Winters from WHQ recently conducted another fantastic
Women's Self Defense Clinic here in San Francisco.
Jeff not
only gave them a unique work out that they will not soon forget,
but with "firm-gentleness" he also imparted vital life
saving skills. Starting with developing the correct mental attitude,
coupled with simple yet amazingly effective techniques, he got the
job done for a very appreciative group of women. You are doing a
great service Jeff, congratulations and keep up the good work.
We
were all very happy to welcome Inst. Pat Brennen from our NY branch,
for a wonderful visit to San Francisco. We had great training, and
lots of extra fun too. I am really looking forward to visiting all
of the NY crew in October.
And as you
all may know, July is the month where we all get to celebrate the
return of my 25th birthday. Students and family from all over converged
into San Francisco for some great dinning in North Beach, as well
as an amazing time at the 450 Montgomery - Cigar Bar. Fun, conversation,
Salsa Music, dancing and "Cubanski's" were the order of
the evening. What a total blast. I can't wait for next year.

OK, that's
all for now. With brotherhood,
