August, 2003
Hello Everyone,
Well, we
survived the month of July! Whew...Now on to August!
First of
all, I have GREAT NEWS from Puerto Rico. As some of you may remember,
our previous representative there was relieved of his position due
to his inability to pursue, continue nor represent this wonderful
art. Well, after a somewhat exhaustive search, we have finally identified
a pair of fantastic martial artists to take hold of the reins. I
would like to introduce: Master Dennis Vega and Inst. Francisco
Delgado. Fortunately, I met these two gentlemen during one of my
seminars in Puerto Rico last year. They had expressed their desire
to learn more about this art, and the possibility of becoming certified
to teach it in PR, but due to unfortunate miscommunications, we
lost touch. Well, we have since then become involved with quite
a bit of communication. And the dialog is very promising. They come
with impressive Korean Martial Arts background (HKD, TKD, etc.)
and have been teaching in Arecibo, PR for quite some time now. I
believe that the evolution into Modern Farang Mu Sul® should
not pose a problem for them, and frankly, we are all thrilled about
what the future holds for us. Let's all welcome these fine gentlemen
into the world of Modern Farang Mu Sul®. For more contact information

The Modern
Farang Mu Sul® group headed by Inst. Larry Saindon brought me
down to sunny Huntington Beach, CA, for a great week end session
of black belt training. Inst. Saindon as well as two candidate black
belts are getting ready to test soon, so we have our work cut out.
We also did a demo and I got to meet most of the students and parents
as well. They made me feel very welcome. Thank you very much!
I recently
spoke with our New York crew, and it turns out that they have been
quite busy. They recently competed in several big tournaments on
the East Coast and have fared very well. Inst. Ken Gibson from Manhattan
and Inst. Michael Iannone from Long Island had impressive 1st place
wins in Fighting (Kumite) and Forms (Kata). CONGRATULATIONS!!! Way
to go, and way to represent!
The NY crew
also took advantage of a great opportunity to train with the world
famous Royce Gracie at a grappling seminar. They did a great job
in learning new material and expanding the knowledge base of this
system.
They also
recently conducted the first ever Comprehensive Breaking Seminar.
All aspects of breaking were covered, ranging from KI breathing,
KI circulation, Understanding Materials, Mental Focus, Breaking
Techniques, and much more. Great job! Keep up the good work.
Speaking
of working on world class grappling. Inst. Schleeter recently sponsored
the irrepressible Frank Shamrock to his academy in Hollister. Of
course the San Francisco students and myself made a B-line down
to Hollister to join in on the fun. A what FUN. We not only did
a super session on (Aggressive) Submission Grappling, but later
were invited to the ensuing BBQ at student Vince Troia's home. To
top the day off, we managed to squeeze in some great shooting at
another student's ranch. We started with shotguns / skeet, AR15,
and an assortment of hand gun drills. Too much fun.

Now for
news from Portugal. Inst. Pinto and the Modern Farang Mu Sul®
group have been very active and productive. They have expanded the
information about the various programs offered with several links
