August, 2007
Welcome to our FMS August
2007 news page. This is an exciting month, with full contact fighting
action, color belt testing, birthdays, and more. We have lots of
Modern Farang Mu Sul® news from all around the globe. Here are
some updates:
FMS
- WHQ: Alright, as many of you know, birthday's are one
of my favorite things to celebrate. In Modern Farang Mu Sul®
we have a custom to definitely recognize and celebrate the birthdays
of our black belts. It turns our that our own Inst. Kimberly Leith's
birthday (from WHQ) fell on the 15th of this month. We were very
pleased to be included in the festivities of her party. My wife
Justine and I joined a group of her closest family and friends for
an awesome dinner party in the outer mission area of San Francisco.
The food was super tasty, and the conversation was wonderful. Especially
remembering stories from her past. Kim is not only a fantastic and
inspiring martial artist, but also an amazing, warm and compassionate
person. Sitting between two of the most beautiful, strong and independent
women in the world is quite the experience. It's a good thing Kims
boyfriend Wess was there to save me. Happy birthday Kim from all
of us that love and care for you. May all your wishes come true.
Farang!
On
other news, Master Schleeter and myself were invited to assist in
a very special martial arts competition this month. Prof. Carlos
Navarro, Grand Master Rubi Navarro and martial artist / champion
fighter and promoter Johnny Davis sponsored another American Kick
Boxing and Muay Thai competition in Roseville, CA. This year they
chose to include a competitive grappling division, for which they
recruited Master Schleeter and myself to coordinate and run. Let
me tell you it was such a blast. On top of grappling duties, we
were also asked to assist with judge and referee duties for just
about every single kick boxing and Muay Thai match of the day. It
was a genuine pleasure and honor to take part and work with these
fantastic young and spirited fighters. Good sportsmanship and hard
fighting were the order of the action packed day. On top of the
Western rules American Kickboxing and international rules Muay Thai
kick boxing competition, at this event they introduced a new categoy
of fighting called "Point Kick Boxing". Let me tell you
it was a non-stop, action packed, rock'em - sock'em day. We look
forward to being involved in more of these events.

FMS Puerto Rico
: Fresh from his trip to China, Master Dennis Vega informs
me that they are very hard at work on preparations to not only do
color belt tests soon, but also quite a few students want to take
the FMS black belt test later on this year. This is fantastic news
indeed. They have lots of things planned for our trip in December,
and frankly, I can barely wait. Good job everyone! Stay focused,
and I'll be seeing you all soon.
FMS
Poland : Well, speaking of birthday's in Modern Farang Mu
Sul®, it turns out that Inst. Katarzyna Klepczyk and Asst. Inst.
Andrez Klepczyk had a little celebrating to do this month as well.
It was their daughter Ania's first year birthday. How exciting is
that?
Lots of family and friends
joined them to celebrate in a wonderful party. Little Ania was surrounded
by legions of her adoring fans, and got to "have her cake,
and eat it too"! Not to forget opening her presents too. She
is such a wonderful little girl that brings so much joy and love
into this world. She is blessed with two of the best parents one
could ever wish to have. Congratulations, and Farang!!!
Also
this month, the Modern Farang Mu Sul® group from Wroclaw had
two special testings. They had adult and children's color belt testing.
After many months of hard preparations, and overcoming numerous
obstacles and distractions, the time had come. The adults and children
showed their stuff.
This meant
lots of kicks, punches, joint locks and take downs, self defense,
forms, grappling and stand up sparring. Instructor Miroslaw Guszczynski
was on hand to help with the judges panel, so that added just a
little more pressure, but that's OK, that's all part of the process.
For
most students, this was their first ever color belt test. Well,
with high spirit and discipline, the groups performed in front of
the judges as well as lots of family and friends. The heat was on,
and they all did a fantastic job. I know your family and teachers
were all very proud of you. And guess what?, So are we here at WHQ.
Remember, your success is our success (and vise-versa). Good job
everyone, and keep working hard. Keep on setting your goals and
let nothing or no one get in your way. In the end, you will be the
one who benefits most from all of your hard work. Farang!!!

FMS - Hollister
: I was informed that the FMS students from Hollister are
also getting ready for another color belt test. They are set to
test next month, and so, they are doing some hardcore training in
preparation for the test. I have lots of faith that they will do
a good job. Just keep training and you'll be fine. Farang!
FMS
- Huntington Beach : As Inst. Nelson Pinto and his wife
Vera begin to settle in Southern California, some times, you've
got to get away, and just have some fun. All work and no play, makes
for a dull time. With so much to see in the southland, it's high
time to get out and enjoy some of the action. Well, say no more,
they decided to take in a few of the great attractions of LA, including
Hollywood, and it's famous walk of fame, Universal Studios and Disneyland.
A couple of the new adult FMS class students, Dayna Hinsley and
Scott Miller (father of Inst. Nicole Miller) were their tour guides,
and I hear they had loads of fun. There is nothing like going somewhere
with someone who is from there and knows where to go, what to see,
and even where not to go. We are very fortunate in Modern Farang
Mu Sul® that as our training progresses, all the students tend
to understand and appreciate the unique brotherhood that we all
share. As such, we try to take advantage and enjoy each others company
in so many ways. This is what the FMS family is all about. They
definitely understand that in the FMS Huntington Beach crew. That
is so awesome.
Also,
Inst. Pinto reports that the FMS Huntington Beach adult program
is growing and doing very well. Lots of the parents of the children
from the kids class have braved the waters and decided to give it
a shot. They are aware of the hard work and sweat that goes into
the training by watching thier kids, but actually doing it themselves,
is a completely new experience. Good job you guys, don't give up.
This is not only a fantastic work out and method of self improvement
and self impowerment, but it is also a very special way to share
and relate to your children who are in the kids program. Very cool
indeed. Keep up the good work everyone. Farang!!!
FMS
Portugal: I got word from Portugal that Asst. Inst. Sergio
Anes from the FMS Braganca school had just done a couple workshops.
He did a couple classes in the Braganca and Mirandela area of Portugal.
The word was that these were some of the very best techniques and
training methods these folks have ever seen. Wow, what a great compliment.
This type of training is so important, and it great to see the various
FMS instructors leading by example. Good job Sir. Farang!
FMS
Germany : Inst. Michael Klockner from FMS Köln informs
me that the students
in Köln have been due for another color belt test, and after
several months of hard work and preparations, they finally did it.
There were also a couple students going for higher color belt levels
as well, so that is just awesome. Well, he is happy to report that
all did a fantastic job, and passed with flying colors. Good work
everyone. Keep on training and reaching for the stars. Before you
know it, you will have them in your hand. Farang!
