September, 2007
As the season begins
to turn to fall, the Modern Farang Mu Sul® family continues
to move forward.
This is another exciting month, with tons of action. We have lots
of Modern Farang Mu Sul® news from all around the globe. Here
are some updates:
FMS
- WHQ: As you all know by now, we have the beautiful California
wine country very close by. And since we recently moved up here,
Master David Dehnert and Marwa came up for a nice little visit.
Of course we went on a jont through the wine country for some great
eating and wine tasting. We were blessed with some fantastic weather,
so we definetly took full advantage. We are fortunate to have such
a spectacular region right at our disposal, with so much to explore
and enjoy.
Also this month, we had
our 1st Annual De Alba Coppa D'Oro competition. This is an event
planned by Master James De Alba and his lovely wife Dolores. It
was a type of olympic style affair, with various events. This innagural
games were held in scenic Sonoma, Ca. The De Alba's were broken
into two teams, and the heat was on. There were relay races, a softball
game, and even some basketball shooting to break any ties. Needless
to say, the younger team edged out the overall win, but it was close.
After the games, Master James had a great BBQ lunch set up. It was
the perfect excuse to get all the family together for some quality
time. We all had so much fun, and look forward to next year's games.

FMS - Hollister
: After several months of hard work and preparation, the
FMS students from Hollister were finally ready for another color
belt test. With well over 20 students testing for a variety of of
color belt levels, it was showtime. Master Patrick Schleeter informs
me that this was one of their best tests. Master Schleeter only
holds about three tests a year, so everyone must work hard to meet
the deadlines and their goals. We are proud of their fantastic accomplishments
and offer well deserved HUGE congratulations! To all the students,
intructors and supporting family, good work everyone, keep setting
your goals and before you know it, you will have reached them. Keep
up the good work, I look forward to seeing you all very soon. Farang!

FMS
Puerto Rico : Master Dennis Vega and the FMS Puerto Rico
family are gearing up for a big competition. He and all of the instructors
are busy preparing a good sized group of kids for the Annual Disneyl
World Martial Arts Festival which is to be held in Florida. They
are working hard to enter their brave little warriors in everything
from empty hand forms, weapon forms, sparring, grappling, weapon
sparring and self defense. Wow, that's a tall order, but their track
record speaks for itself. They have been making a huge impact in
every martial arts competition they have entered for quite some
time now. We just know they are going to do a fantastic job. Good
luck everyone, we can't wait to hear the results. Farang!
FMS
New York : With the East coast crew on sabatical, we have
not had much news. But we did hear that one of the FMS-TVT members
Brent Aperias has been busy with several Muay Thai fights.
He has been now working
with the great Lou Neglia, and is on good streak. He has won his
last few fights in convincing fashion.
Well, he is slated to
appear on the undercard of the great kick boxing event: Combat at
the Capitale. We all wish him continued good luck.
FMS - Huntington
Beach : It has been quite a while since the students from
FMS Huntington Beach have had a color Belt Testing. Not to say that
they have not been working hard, just that they have not been focusing
on testing. Well, all that changed. Now that the new FMS adult program
is going strong, the kids program has had the opportunity to work
on the needed materials. Inst. Saindon had been getting lots of
great support from not only the FMS Huntington Beach black belts
and assistant instructors such as Inst. Nelson Pinto, Inst. Nicole
Miller, Inst. Dylan Hamilton, Inst. Matt Wagner, Asst. Inst. Nic
Nelson and Asst. Inst. Mariah Witt. As if that were not enough,
Isnt. Beth Matulich and Inst. Earl Boyd have been making frequent
visits to work out and enjoy the So. Cal. weather and the FMS-Crew's
hospitality. Well, job well done. Over 20 of the young warroirs
demonstrated their skills and passed with flying colors. Great work
everyone.
FMS
Portugal: Inst. Sergio Anes from the FMS Braganca school
came down to join Inst. Tiago Silva in the city of Caldas de Rainha
for another special FMS seminar. They worked on lots of FMS-CQC
combatives. Using the five ranges priciples, they expanded on the
various tools needed in each range. They also worked on several
weapons such as the signature FMS Dan Gum Sul - Combat Knife Fighting
/ Knife Defense, as well as Jung Bong Sul - Combat Middle Stick
Fighting. Congratulations, and job well done gentlemen. Keep up
the good work. Farang!

FMS
Germany : With the 32nd FMS black belt test right around
the corner, Inst. Michael Klockner from FMS Köln will be coming
to the USA to present his test. He has been wanting to get his official
certification for several years now, and for one reason or another,
he would miss it. He and the FMS Germany crew have been in some
serious training, and everyone has been helping for his test. They
don't want him to miss out this next opportunity to test for his
official FMS black belt. Well, no more, he is not only going to
test, but he will also come to the USA a little earlier, and stay
with Kuk Sa Nim a few weeks for some final preparation and make
his test. That is awesome! Congratulations Sir! We know you are
going to do just great. Farang!
Other
News: We are very happy and proud to welcome a new member
into our FMS extended family. His name is Master Robert Ott. He
comes to us from the capital city of that great North West state
of Washington. That would be Olympia for those that did not know.
Master Robert Ott runs a number of businesses including his passion
which is his dojang called "The Temple of Certain Victory".
It does not have this name by accident, nor is it a stretch to realize
how well suited it is. Master Ott is not only an accomplished martial
artists, but he is also one of the most inspirational persons you
would ever meet. He is an author, and an international motivational
speaker. His book, also called "Certain Victory" is a
biographical story of his life as a person and his martial arts
journey. And what a story he has to tell. Once I started reading
it, I could not put the thing down. He has survived so much, and
keeps going on, and his thirst for knowledge and true brotherhood
of martial arts is never ending. I won't spoil the book for you,
so you'll need to get your own copy, but it details his childhood
in the East coast, discovering martial arts, becoming a champion
fighter, and surviving some of the most traumatic events in anyone's
life, including being a victim of violence, getting shot in the
head and losing his eyesight, falling into the pits of despair,
and rising above it all. He is a tremendous success story and embodies
all the best qualities of a true modern day warrior. Welcome sir!
I look forward to sharing some great training and good times very
soon. Farang!
On to more
news, well, it's just about that time of the year again. Were talking
about the Mt. Shasta Film Festival that is founded and coordinated
by Asst. Inst. Jeff Winters. He's got quite the line up of films.
Check out the program on his web site www.shastafilmfest.com.
Good luck Sir, I know how hard you work on this.
