November, 2003

Hello Everyone,

With Christmas just around the corner, we are beginning to wrap up the year 2003. This month has proven to be just as active for Modern Farang Mu Sul® as any month this year (or any other for that matter). We have so much news that I almost don't know where to begin.

So let's start with the recent motorcycle road trip that Master James De Alba and Inst. David Dehnert just went on. It was a 20K ride, with hundreds of motorbikes rolling down the I5 from Glendale to Castaic Lake for a concert. ZZ Top was the main attraction. Jay Leno actually led the pack. Yes, they have a good time even out of their doboks! Good times for sure (wish I were there).

I was informed by Inst. Tomek Foik that the FMS group in Warsaw, Poland recently sponsored Guru Steve Lefebvre for an awesome Sayok Kali Seminar. This marked the first time that Sayok Kali has ever been presented in Poland, and the Warsaw group took full advantage, as they kept Guru Lefebvre busy, and I'm sure that they showered him with questions galore (humm....now what would I know about that?...ha.ha). Good job guys, I hope you sharpened up your knife skills, because I'm going to be checking you all out next spring.

Speaking of seminars, Inst. Pinto and the Modern Farang Mu Sul® group from Portugal have kept a very busy schedule this year. They have been performing Demonstrations, Competitions and Seminars all over Portugal. Their latest was in Coimbra (which is in the very north of Portugal). Great job you guys. Keep up the good work. We are all very proud of you.

We've also had a couple of students move away, and have started Modern Farang Mu Sul® programs in their areas. They are Inst. Robert Hudson, who moved from NY to Michigan and Asst. Inst. Jeff Winters from WHQ-SF who up and moved to beautiful Mt. Shasta in northern California. He has started a class at the College of the Siskiyous. Check out Inst. Hudson's new website info at: The Martial Arts Learning Center .

Our long distance training program is in full swing. At this time I would like to welcome a few of the latest members. They are: Inst. Luis Soto, and Inst. Efrain Santiago from Puerto Rico, also Inst. JJ Rosouw from South Africa, as well as Frank Gerigk from Germany, and all the way from Santa Rosa, Calif, we have Inst. Mario Bertacco. Welcome, just remember to keep focused and that we are only an e-mail away from any questions that you may have. I look forward to your progress.

NEWS: The 24th Black Belt / Black Sash was a success, and we now have 2 new Instructors: This was indeed a milestone for our art and organization, as it marked not only our first Jr. Black Belts, but also the fact that they are female is just too cool. Understand, that right now there are only 4 women in the entire world who have attained the coveted Black Belt / Black Sash in this art. They are Inst. Kaska Furdyna from Wroclaw, Poland, Inst. Susanne Wendler from Castrop-Rauxel, Germany, Inst. Kim Leith from San Francisco, Ca. and Inst. Beth Dudzik from Hollister, Ca.

At this time I'd like to congratulate Inst. Cassie Van Doren and Inst. Nicole Miller from Huntington Beach, Ca. on presenting an awe inspiring test. The panel of judges pulled no punches as these young ladies were put through a grueling 5 1/2 hr test. Let's just say that they definitely earned their stripes. Well done ladies.

Inst. Saindon is to be commended for doing such an amazing job of keeping them focused all these years, and providing them with every opportunity to learn all they needed. Including bringing me down to LA a few times as well as bringing the ladies up here to San Francisco for final touches on their requirements. Thank you very much Inst. Saindon, you can be very proud of your efforts, as they have finally begun to produce fruit. Also, thank you very much Inst. Schleeter for coordinating yet another great Black Belt / Black Sash test and ceremony at you academy in Hollister. Huge thanks go to the other instructors who joined in to oversee, and keep these girls honest. Last but not least, thank you to the family members, (parents, brothers and sisters), for making the trip to Hollister as well as all their support throughout the years, which without, this moment would not have been possible.

This is a truly great moment, so let's all celebrate and congratulate our latest Black Belt / Black Sashes.

And speaking of testing, we have had quite a few schools conducting color belt testing recently. The Spokane, Wa. branch, Hollister, Ca. branch, Köln, Germany Branch, Wroclaw, Poland branch, and here at WHQ-SF, all had awesome tests. Congratulations to all the new belts. You deserve it, and we can't express how proud we are of you all, for you are the future. So, keep setting your goals, and GO FOR IT!

(Sorry, I only have pictures from tests in NY & WHQ-SF.....hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

Lastly, once again, it is that time of the year where we would all like to wish Master Klaus Wachsmann a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! We know that he is having a great time celebrating with all of the German students, so this is from all of the rest of us!

GLÜCKLICHER GEBURTSTAG !!! ( I hope I spelled that right..)
